Social Media

With the rise of new media and the fast-increasing popularity of social networking websites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, MySpace, EFI employees face a wider array of choices in communicating internally and externally. In seizing these new opportunities for improved exchange and collaboration, EFI employees also have new responsibilities to EFI, one another, and the community at large. In general, what you do on your own time is your own business. However, activities in or outside of work that affect your EFI job performance, the performance of others, or EFI's business interests are a proper focus for company policy.

This policy applies to EFI employees who upload, post, or otherwise transmit text, pictures, or any other content or material on any website, including any of the following:

  1. Multi-media and social networking websites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, MySpace;
  2. Blogs, discussion forums, newsgroups, message boards, e-mail groups; and,
  3. Wikis such as Wikipedia.

All of these activities are referred to as "Internet postings" in this Policy.

Guidelines

1. Use Common Sense

Common sense is the best guide if you decide to post information about EFI. Keep in mind that anything you post is accessible to anyone with a web browser. It is perfectly acceptable to talk about your work and have a dialogue with the community, but you cannot disclose confidential EFI information. If you are unsure about whether you can post certain content, please contact EFI Corporate Marketing or Strategic Relations for guidance.

You should also make sure that your online activities do not interfere with your job or commitments to customers.

2. Respect the Rights of Others

Whether in the actual or virtual world, your communications should be respectful. Your Internet postings should not disclose any information that is confidential or proprietary to the company or to any third party that has disclosed information to EFI or directly to you. You should respect copyright, privacy, fair use, financial disclosure, and other applicable laws. Make sure you have the right to upload, post, blog or otherwise transmit the comments, communication, content or material that you use.

You also should not post information about other EFI employees without their permission, just as you would not want someone else posting information about you without your permission.

3. Be a Responsible Employee

EFI Corporate Marketing is the only group authorized to use internet social media tools on the company's behalf.   In contrast, your Internet posting should reflect your personal point of view, which may or may not be the same as EFI's. It is important to make this distinction. When posting your point of view, you should neither claim nor imply that you are speaking for EFI. Similarly, you should not post EFI's logos or trademarks, unless you are authorized in writing by EFI Corporate Marketing to do so.

If you identify yourself as an EFI employee on any Internet posting, refer to the work done by EFI, provide a link to an EFI website, or comment on any aspect of the company's business, you must include the following disclaimer in a reasonably prominent place: "The views expressed here are my personal opinions and do not necessarily reflect the views of Electronics for Imaging, Inc."

If a member of the news media or a blogger contacts you about an Internet posting that concerns EFI, please refer that person to EFI Corporate Marketing.

4. Know the Risks

You are legally responsible for your postings, so you need to know that you may be personally subject to legal action if your posts are threatening, hateful, obscene, pornographic, vulgar, sexually explicit, libelous, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise in violation of law. You may also be liable if you make postings that include confidential or proprietary information (i.e., music, videos, text) belonging to third parties. You may also violate business outlook disclosure laws if your posting discusses financial topics or predicts future performance (i.e., future product launch dates, pricing decisions, roadmaps, unannounced financial results). All of the above-mentioned Internet postings are prohibited under this policy.

For EFI's protection and your own, it is critical that you show proper respect for copyrighted material owned by others, including EFI's copyrights and trademarks. You should never quote more than short excerpts of someone else's work, and it is good general blogging practice to link to others' work if you do quote them. Keep in mind that laws will be different depending on where you live and work.

You are encouraged to tell the world about your work, but need to do so with integrity and good judgment. Using your public voice to embarrass EFI, our customers, your co-workers, or yourself is not only dangerous, but not very smart. Your Internet postings should not violate the EFI Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, or any other EFI policy, including the Code of Ethics for the Management Team, the Code of Ethics for the Accounting and Finance Team, and the Code of Ethics for the Sales Team.

Please be aware that violation of this Internet Social Media Policy may result in EFI disciplinary action (including termination) or other legal consequences. You agree that EFI shall not be liable, under any circumstances, for any errors, omissions, loss or damages claimed or incurred due to any of your Internet postings.

This Policy may evolve as new technologies and social networking tools emerge. EFI reserves the right to change this Internet Social Media Policy, and you are responsible for checking this Policy periodically to make sure you are up to date.

5. EFI Groups

EFI Groups are EFI community groups on social networking sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn. EFI Corporate Marketing is exclusively authorized to form and manage EFI Groups. EFI may request that you avoid certain subjects or withdraw certain posts from an EFI Group if it believes that doing so will help ensure compliance with the law, including securities regulations. EFI reserves the right to remove any posted comment on EFI Group site(s) that is not appropriate for the topic discussed or uses inappropriate language. EFI also reserves the right to post particular communications to an EFI Group.
